Caribbean Land and Water Resources Network (CLAWRENET)
Goal
Develop Science and Technology in Land and Water Resources among public,
private agricultural entities and NGOs to support agriculturally based
industries in attaining international competitiveness and the sustainable
development of the Caribbean region.
Purpose
Generate, validate and transfer environmentally sound technologies in
land and water resources for use by agricultural producers.
Approach/Strategy
CLAWRENET's approach is to co-ordinate the host of regional and international
organisations who address natural resource and environmental issues
in the region. In order to optimise sustainable use of the region's
natural resources, multi-sectoral policies and activities will need
to be co-ordinated with the assistance of regional and international
organisations. Moreover, the achievement of sustainable economic development
will require greater attention to the establishment of legal, regulatory
and incentive-based policy frameworks that take account of the changing
global and trade liberalisation arrangements now underway.
Outputs
- CLAWRENET established with National Network Committees comprised of
national stakeholders implementing work programmes in areas of national
and regional priority in respect to land and water resource management.
- Regional GIS database of national land and water resources developed.
- National and regional policies developed, where non-existent on the
management of natural resources in the agricultural sector.
- Information on national and regional priorities and activities in
natural resource management documented and disseminated to all stakeholders.
