Caribbean Integrated Pest Management Network (CIPMNET)

Goal
To promote support and collaboration among Caribbean member states with linkages to international organisations in delivering more effective IPM as a key component of sustainable agriculture in the region.

Purpose
The implementation of IPM strategies that encompass cost effective measures of prevention, observation and intervention in a holistic approach that enhances profitability and environmental protection while maintaining pest populations at levels above those causing economically unacceptable damage or loss.

Approach/Strategy
CIPMNET's approach is to work among national programmes with access to international organisations as needed, to develop appropriate IPM strategies for local circumstances and integrate IPM strategies in product marketing and sales.

Outputs
- Improved technologies adopted by technicians, researchers, farmers and other economic players.
- Completed and updated survey of natural enemies for priority pests of significant regional importance.
- Bio-control methodologies established for priority pests in the region.
- Reports on pesticide use, pest resistance and residues on a national and regional basis.
- Trained researchers, technicians and farmers in various IPM practices.
- IPM information (priority pests, pest/virus incidence, effective IPM practices, etc.) compiled disseminated through its database, webpage and various information products.
