Caribbean Small Ruminants Network
(CASRUNET)
Goal
To develop science and technology in small ruminants among public, private
agricultural entities and NGOs to support agriculturally based industries
in attaining international competitiveness and the sustainable development
of the Caribbean region.
Purpose
To foster collaboration in small ruminants' research and development
among stakeholders for the benefit of the region's farmers, entrepreneurs
and other beneficiaries within sustainable agricultural systems.
Approach/Strategy
The approach is to work with national entities to identify constraints
and improve the overall competitiveness of the regional sector.
Outputs
- CASRUNET officially established and National Network Committees implementing
work programmes in areas of national and regional priority.
- Technicians and farmers trained in production and marketing systems
in member countries.
- Industry constraints, activities and areas of priority documented
and disseminated to all stakeholders.
- Information on small ruminant technology transferred and disseminated
through publications and posting on CASRUNET's web page.
- CASRUNET's database established.
- Appropriate small farmer production systems developed in member countries.
- Improved breeds of sheep and goats developed for farmers in the region.
- NARDS institutional capacity in small ruminant R&D strengthened.
