Caribbean Post Harvest Technology Network (CAPHNET)
Goal
Develop post harvest technology system among public and private agricultural
entities and NGOs, in the development of sustainable quality assurance
systems for perishable, durable and processed products in commercial
enterprises while ensuring food security, poverty alleviation and environmental
sustainability.
Purpose
Co-ordinate regional research, adapt and transfer post-harvest and processing
technologies to contribute to reduced losses, improved quality and improved
efficiency in the preparation of Caribbean marketable products.
Approach/Strategy
CAPHNET's strategy is to work with existing commodity and thematic networks
to assist in resolving post harvesting problems and constraints in priority
regional crops.
Outputs
- CAPHNET established with National Network Committees (NNCs) implementing
work programmes in areas of national and regional priority in respect
to post-harvest technology.
- Development of national and regional research work programmes in post-harvest
technology and quality assurance in support of agricultural enterprises
in the Caribbean.
- Information on post-harvest technology documented and disseminated
to all stakeholders.
- Agricultural earnings increased overall evidenced by the adoption
of post-harvest technologies.
