Project L2R10: NARS Institutional Development

Goal:
Develop science and technology among public and private agricultural entities and NGOs to support agriculturally based industries in attaining international competitiveness and the sustainable development of the Caribbean's agricultural sector.

Purpose:
To increase the capacity of member institutions to effectively execute PROCICARIBE's work programmes.

Background / Justification:
Efforts are needed to strengthen the capacity of the National Agricultural Research Services (NARS) to implement effective R&D programmes and projects. The proposed project facilitates the development and strengthening of the NARS so that they are capable of implementing the national Programmes of Work (POW) of the networks while facilitating collaboration with other countries and institutions. The project also facilitates the identification of priorities for R&D in each network area while providing a platform for co-operation among regional and international organisations.

Activities:
1. Convene Executive Committee Meeting
2. Assist the convening of National Co-ordinating Committee (NCC) meetings in PROCICARIBE member countries.
3. Organise and convene training interventions for the strengthening of the NARDS.
4. Assist NARDS in developing policies that are of regional importance identified within the networks work programmes.

Outputs:
1. Executive Committee meeting convened.
2. NCCs set up in all PROCICARIBE member countries and meeting at least semi-annually.
3. Facilitation of at least 2 training interventions.
4. PROCICARIBE Secretariat assist its members in developing policies for regional importance for the regional sector.
